Reading #41

December 5, 2016

Civilization has been thrust upon me. It hasn't added anything to my love for truth, honesty, and generosity.

Civilization isn't the source of what makes us an individual. We earn our values of truth, honesty, and generosity through our interaction with both the people and the world around us. It is up to us to decide what kind of people we're gonna be. It's easy to go with what everyone else is doing, but it takes a strong individual to stand up and do what they want to do, even if society rejects them. We have the power to choose. While the world around us can scream and shout and command us to be something, just another face among the crowd, we need to remember that we are individuals and we decide our own fate, not civilization.
